Day 1 8-5-2005, Friday - 683 miles
I woke up at 4 am to get an early start and I was on the road at 4:15. I was able to reach the Great Sand Dunes national park after riding 683 miles which took twelve hours. I camped at Pinyon flats campgrounds which lies within the park. Rain was Mother Natures way of greeting me from 8 pm to 12 pm but I did get some time to explore the area surrounding the dunes on a minor scale before the rain and I started reading the book I brought with me, the Da Vinci Code. The chipmunks welcomed me as they always do to any visitor that explores Colorado but one chipmunk nibbled on my ankle as I started reading my book while sitting at a table which startled me a bit. I continued reading the book in my tent via flashlight after dark as the rain stalled my star gazing desires.
