When we awoken on Friday morning the first thing I witnessed was some unlucky tourist had their window busted out of their rent a car. Unfortunately the tourist was me. Maybe the sleepy little fishing village of Playa del Carmen isn't so sleepy nowadays. At any rate, Cindy and I exchanged rent a cars and continued with our vacation although the vandalism did dampen our spirits for a short time. The thought of having the donkey we saw the previous day seemed to be a good deal for a brief moment as we would not had any problems with broken glass and the gas mileage would have been better.

After picking up another rent a car Cindy and I went to Akumal and found some beautiful beach that provided some good snorkeling because of a reef that is positioned 100 yards from the beach to block ocean waves and the combined effect of the clear Caribbean. Some of the beach at Akumal you need to be an hotel tenant but there is enough public space to do anything you want in regards to snorkeling.

We stopped at Xcaret after Akumal although we never actually took a day trip to the eco park as time did not allow. But that didn't keep us from snapping a couple of pictures which you can view below.

We dined at a street side cafe in Playa del Carmen all three nights we were there. The Mayan dishes are different than what you have experienced in the past but it does taste good which is a key element by most anyone's standards.

Musicians, Mayan Indians (with youngsters dressed as Mayan in tow) and an atmosphere that is very relaxing and interesting with the different facets and cultures of people is what made Playa del Carmen interesting to me.

Cindy and I struck up a conversation with two friendly girls from Switzerland that spoke good English. Don't think for a minute I can speak Swiss-German. These girls told of a beach that we should visit which we did the next day and we did not regret it.
